☆ Killing Time

「時間を潰す」=「killing time」
考えてみると日本語でも興味深い表現ですが、
英語でも同じ様な表現ですね。

Imagine you are meeting your friend at 7:00 p.m.
in front of ALTA department store in Shinjuku.
You finish work at three o'clock and arrive in Shinjuku
about four o'clock. Now you have three hours
before you meet your friend. What are you going to do?

In English we say "I have three hours to kill" or
"I need to kill three hours." When I have some
time to kill, I always do the same things:
I go to a coffee shop and read, or go to a bookstore
or a record store and browse. What do you like
to when you have time to kill?Do you go to a video
game arcade or a pacinko parlour? Do you go to a
convenient store and read the magazines or do you go
to a department store and look at the new, winter fashions?
The best answser, of course, is YOU STUDY ENGLISH!!

BROWSE= To look over casually.
When I say "I'm going to a bookstore to browse,"
it means that I'm not looking for a specific book.
I might buy something or I might not.
It means I'm just looking around.

CONVERSATION

Kelly: "I had a really boring day yesterday. I waited for my best friend to phone me, but she never phoned."

Dan: "Oh that's terrible, what did you do while you were waiting for your friend to call you?"

Kelly: "I tried to kill time by reading a magazine but it nearly sent me to sleep."

Dan: "I know what you mean, whenever I'm waiting for someone I always try to kill time by either reading or listening to music, but sometimes it makes the time go even slower!"
