Recently there seems to be more people
standing up than sitting down,
during the mid morning as well as the evening.
A few years ago it didn't seem so busy.
In Australia, not many people use public transport,
especially trains. Using the train at night is
dangerous in Australia, it is surprisingly safe in Japan.
The freedom of the train services here is amazing.

私は standing 派です。その理由のひとつは、電車には４分半しか乗っていないこと、もうひとつの理由は、一日会社で８時間のうち６時間以上は座っているから、帰る頃にはもう座っていたくないのです。
公共交通機関の事情は、各国様々。昔に比べたらずいぶん治安も悪くなりましたが、まだまだ夜の夜中に女性ひとりでも電車に乗れる（女性専用車もできたし）日本の交通機関の安全性と利便性、守っていきたいですね。
