If you turn up late to your next meeting,
an appointment or to work next time
remember to say this common, everyday
expression: It is better late than never.
Of course say sorry, but remind those
people who have been waiting for you
that it is good you finally arrived.
Everyone knows Japanese are very punctual,
but sometimes being late can't be helped.
You may be late because of a train delay
or because of an earthquake. People are
late for various reasons. But if you never
showed up at your next meeting,
appointment or to work again that would
be more serious than arriving late. This
is exactly what the expression is trying
to say to people. The message is clear,
being late is not as serious as never
showing up again. Sometimes people
use this expression to stop people from
driving too fast. It is a useful expression
to remind people that it's more serious
never show up than to arrive late.

turn up=出席する、姿を見せる
Remind=思い出させる
=Help people to remember
Delay=遅れる
=Not arriving on time
Punctual=時間を守る、几帳面な
=Exactly on time, never late
show up=現れる、来る
