'In retrospect' 'looking back'

「今思い返せば・・・」というフレーズは
日本語でもよく使いますね。
英語で言うと、
「in retrospect」「looking back...」

It is sometimes difficult to see the good things
about an experience when you are going through it.
But maybe a few months later or even years later,
you are now able to see the good things.
These two phrases are useful in these situations.
Here are some examples:
“My first year at my company was very difficult,
but in retrospect, I realized I learned a lot.”
“My trip to New York was a horrible experience.
I stayed in a bad hotel, didn’t meet anybody,
and it was hot and muggy everyday.
But, looking back, I’m glad I went.
I have many interesting stories to tell!”

go through=（辛い試練などを）経験する
in retrospect=今から考えれば、振り返ってみれば
muggy=蒸し暑い
looking back=過去を振り返って

retrospectは覚えにくいかもしれませんね。
辞書によると、ret/ro/spectという区切りになっています。
retroという単語に関連しているのかと思いきや、
少し違うようですね。
ちなみに、retrospectの逆はprospect
こちらは「予測」という意味があり、
「in prospect」だと「見込みがあって」という
意味になります。
