←assertive
←arrogant
Recently, I was teaching a lesson about descriptions
and a student asked what is the difference between
the word 'assertive' and the word 'arrogant'?
I thought it was a good question, and some students
may be curious to know there is a big difference
between the words.
For example, an assertive person is confident
and is self-assured. But an arrogant person
imagines they are highly important and often
tries to pretend they are better than other people.
So as you can see, these words are not related.
Assertive is a positive description for a person,
but arrogant is a negative description for someone.
Another example is, we can describe him as a really
assertive leader. If we say he was an arrogant leader,
we are giving an instant negative message about
his leadership.
Remember, assertive is used for both women and
men, but arrogant is usually used for men.
description=説明、解説
assertive=断定的な、はきはきした、自分の意見をしっかり言う
arrogant=傲慢な、横暴な
curious=好奇心をそそる、気になる
confident=自信のある
about their personality and their character, etc
