Winners

今日のテーマは「winners」です。
最近、コンテストや競技など、競争で価値を決めることが
多くなったような気がします。

Everybody likes a winner. Have you heard of
the song lyrics 'the winner takes it all'?
They come from a very famous song, sung
by the Swedish band ABBA. These lyrics
are significant because they show that
winners get everything - fame, fortune,
a fantastic image and a fun life! But
sometimes people who win contests, such
as beauty contests, music contests, sports
contests or even school contests are not
the only winners. Often those who get
second or third in a contest are very talented,
smart and skilled.

fame=名声

もちろん１位になることは素晴らしいことですが、
１位になることだけが素晴らしい訳ではありませんよね。
そこまで頑張ってきた全員の努力！
きっと全員に成果が現れているはず。

Recently, I was watching the hit show,
American Idol (for those who do not
know this show, it is a huge music
contest show produced in the USA). The
winner took the title of being the best singer,
but honestly I think another contestant was
extremely talented too.
